How Xcelo Works

Complete project overview — consumer app, Studio, categories, stats, and limits

1. What Xcelo is

Xcelo is a signed-in video platform. End users browse and watch videos in the consumer app (website / mobile web or wrapped app). Organisations or admins use Xcelo Studio (a separate tool) to upload videos, choose Education and/or Shop (e-commerce) tags, and view analytics. The consumer app and Studio work together but serve different roles: watching happens in the app; publishing and tagging happen in Studio.

2. Sign-in and profile

You create an account (for example with email or Google, depending on what we enable) and sign in to see personalised feeds, your profile, Results, Topics, and settings. Your profile can include a display name and photo. You can log out from a shared device when finished. Some informational pages (Privacy, Terms, this page, Contact) may be available without signing in, depending on how we publish the site.

3. Main navigation in the consumer app

  • Home — Entertainment feed: only videos that have neither an Education tag nor a Shop tag.
  • Education — Videos tagged in Studio with an education category (e.g. MBBS, engineering, school, etc.).
  • Shop — Videos tagged with a shop / e-commerce category (e.g. fashion, electronics, grocery).
  • Results — Leaderboard based on how many short demo promotional clips you completed watching (full play, per our rules).
  • Topics — Pick a specific topic (an education slug, a shop slug, or Entertainment/Home). See rankings by completed full video watches for that topic, plus your own total history across topics.
  • Profile — Account and settings.

4. How videos get into the right feed (Studio)

In Xcelo Studio, when a video is uploaded, the uploader can set:

  • Education category — optional. If set, the video is eligible for the Education hub (and for Education topic buckets).
  • E-commerce (Shop) category — optional. If set, the video is eligible for the Shop hub (and for Shop topic buckets).
  • If both are left empty, the video is treated as general Entertainment and appears on Home only (not under Education or Shop lists).
  • If both tags are set, the video can appear under both Education and Shop, and completing it can count toward both topic types in Topics.

Studio may also show user analytics (aggregated viewing and engagement fields) for operations — that data is separate from the simplified stats users see in Results and Topics.

5. Watching videos — completion and fairness

Playback is designed so that skipping ahead or abusing the timeline does not count as a normal watch where we enforce watch integrity. For Topics, we generally count a watch when you finish the video (reach the end) under the rules built into the player — not for a quick skip. For Results, each short demo ad must be watched to the end (per timer/rules) to add +1 to your demo-ad score.

The app may also send watch-session signals to our servers (start, heartbeat, end) so we can verify viewing in a consistent way and run the product safely. That is backend logic for quality and abuse prevention — it is not a promise of money or gifts in the consumer app.

6. Results — demo ad leaderboard

Before some videos you may see one or more demo promotional segments. When you complete a segment fully, we increment a counter on your account. Results shows users ranked by that counter (e.g. top 200). This is a community scoreboard for engagement — it is not a prize, not a withdrawal balance, and not redeemable for cash or merchandise from Xcelo.

7. Topics — per-category watch ranks and total history

In Topics, you choose a bucket such as a specific Education subject, a Shop category, or Entertainment / Home (videos with no Education or Shop tag). When you complete a video, we add to the matching bucket(s): one completion can add to more than one bucket if the video has both Education and Shop tags.

You see a leaderboard for the selected bucket and a total history view that sums your activity across buckets (so the sum can be higher than the number of distinct videos if dual-tagged videos exist).

8. What Xcelo does not offer (consumer app)

  • No in-app gifts or physical prizes tied to scores or ranks.
  • No cash rewards, wallet, or withdrawal from the consumer app for watching or ranking.
  • No redeemable “points” balance that can be exchanged for money or gifts from Xcelo because of leaderboard position.

Gift and withdrawal style features have been removed or disabled in the product surfaced to users, and related APIs are blocked or return empty/disabled responses so the live app matches this policy.
